Maybe you're starting from zero and want to do it properly this time; maybe you understand plenty but freeze when it's your turn to talk. That's exactly what these lessons are for.

I'm a native Spanish speaker and an experienced, qualified teacher. I've taught Spanish for years — at university level in the United States and one-to-one online — to learners from complete beginners (A1) to advanced (C1), with a background in education and Hispanic studies. In a sea of profiles, here's the difference: I know how people actually learn a language, and how to get you using it from the very first session.

How I teach

Your life is the starting point — the grammar comes to meet it

My lessons are conversational, but never just chat. Every session has a clear goal and a sequence designed to reach it, and the grammar gets fine, deliberate attention — inside conversation that actually matters to you, not on a worksheet. Your life, your interests and your reasons for learning Spanish are the raw material of every class.

And I don't assume that once seen is once learned: what we work on today reappears weeks later, folded into new things, so it settles for good instead of evaporating. You'll notice the design without ever having to think about it.

The Spanish of Spain — with the whole map in view

I teach the Spanish people actually speak here in Spain, in my own voice. But Spanish is a world language, and when something varies — pronunciation, everyday words, the way the past tense works in Buenos Aires versus Madrid — I'll flag it, so what you hear from Mexican colleagues or Colombian friends orients you instead of confusing you.

That last line is what sets me apart. I'm also a trained historian, and for me a language is never only rules and vocabulary: it's a way into how people think and see the world. So the words come with the life behind them — where an expression comes from, why we say things the way we do, what's happening in Spain right now. You don't just learn to speak Spanish; you start to understand the world it opens.

If you want pure, mechanical exam-drilling and nothing else, I'm probably not your teacher. But if you want to speak with confidence and genuinely understand what you're saying, we'll get on well.

About me

A trained teacher and historian, from Alcalá de Henares

BA in History (University of Alcalá, with an Erasmus year in Groningen).
Master's in Hispanic Studies (Auburn University, USA), where I taught Spanish at university level.
Master's in Teacher Training · Geography, History and Social Sciences.
Certified C1 English (Cambridge) — I can lean on English whenever you need a hand.

I live between Alcalá de Henares — Cervantes' hometown — and Guadalajara, in central Spain, and currently teach adult learners around Europe online. The Spanish you'll learn with me is the one people actually speak here, with the culture and the history that make it make sense.

First session

Start with a relaxed first conversation

The best way to begin is a first session at a reduced rate: a relaxed conversation — a trial, not an exam. I want to understand why you've come to Spanish, what you need it for and how you learn, while you get a real taste of how I teach: we'll take something that actually matters to you and turn it into a small, real piece of learning, the way every regular class works. I'll get a natural sense of your level along the way — no test of any kind — and you'll leave with an honest picture of where you are and a path mapped out, whether or not we continue.
